The Adventurer in You!

When a soon-to-be or empty-nest mom decides it’s a great time for her to reinvent or to revive her dreams, finds excitement and fulfillment in one of 4 ways.

She revives her dreams of being…

  • An artist
  • A champion
  • An entrepreneur, or
  • An adventurer

And sometimes, all of the above.

Today, I’m sharing the Adventurer model of Reinvention.

This model of reinvention, as you might expect, is about adventure and freedom.

Its about finally honoring those exciting and daring travel dreams you’ve been yearning for all these years.

If this is you, you may have been born with this sense of adventure inside of you, and may have dreamed of faraway places as a child.

If this is you, you may even simply enjoy variety in your day-to-day, and perhaps love to try new things – new restaurants, new hobbies, new experiences.

This model of reinvention is all about the Bucket List!

Now that the kids are getting a little older, you lift your head up and look around and find that you’re suddenly in your 40’s or 50’s or 60’s, and you realize that there are still quite a few adventures that you want to experience.

Maybe you have entertained the idea of…

  • Renting a villa in Tuscany for a week (or a month) and learning to cook authentic Italian food

Maybe you’ve thought about…

  • Sipping hot chocolate at a sidewalk café in Paris

Or maybe you’d like to…

  • See the pyramids in Egypt or walk along the Great Wall of China

Maybe you want to…

  • Rent an RV and visit the national parks here in the US, or
  • Learn to sail in the Caribbean, or
  • Explore the Amazon Rainforest

Or maybe you want to…

  • Enjoy a spa weekend with your girlfriends, or
  • Take your family to a broadway show in new York

Or perhaps it would thrill you to stay closer to home, but try something new, like…

  • Salsa dancing, or
  • Kayaking, or
  • Ziplining!

No matter what your adventurous dreams are, you feel it deep down that you don’t want to go through life without truly experiencing it, without exploring your country or this planet we’ve been blessed with.

In the past, you may have been unable to pursue these dreams because you felt you didn’t have the money or the time

But now that the kids are growing up, you have an opportunity, and frankly, an obligation to yourself, to explore these adventurous dreams

No matter what type of adventure that speaks to your heart, that voice that’s calling your attention to it is a powerful part of You.

Ignoring that voice is often the cause of that nagging feeling that something is missing.

That small voice or that yearning to get out and explore means that you were MEANT for it.

When our kids are little, they consume all of our focus, our time and our energy.

But when they grow up a little and become more self-sufficient, we have more mental bandwidth to listen to that voice, the one that’s urging you toward adventures and exploration.

Whatever it is that whispers to you, it’s time to pay attention.

  • If Ireland is calling you, it’s time to listen
  • If Bali is calling you, it’s time to listen
  • If that hiking trail 12 miles from your home is calling you, it’s time to listen

This IS your spirit giving you a wink.

This is your true self trying to get your attention.

This is your adventurous nature trying to nudge you into action.

It’s time to renew that bold and curious explorer within you.

It’s time to bring that Adventurer in you back to life!

So here’s a practical tip for you…

Grab a journal or piece of paper and fill in the blank on this statement 5 times…

“if I were to honor the Adventurer that is in me, I would…

Write the first 5 things that come to mind.

They might be small things like, “Try out that new Thai restaurant that opened up downtown”

Or they might be big things like, “Finally Book that Mediterranean cruise I’ve been dreaming about”

Whether big or small, give yourself the gift of taking one action within the next 7 days to bring that dream to life.

For a little inspiration, think of a time in your life when you did something adventurous. Remember how it made you feel -- the bold, courageous freedom of going out into the world to explore and to have new experiences.

I’ve managed to have quite a few adventures in my life, and one of my early ones was my first trip to New York with my sister. We were young and broke, so we planned it a year in advance so we’d have time to save some money for it. When the time came for the trip, we were both still young and both still broke. But we looked at each other and said “screw it, let’s do it anyway”. I don’t recall ANY hardship or struggle of paying off that credit card, but I sure remember the excitement and adventure and the awe of a couple of Midwest girls exploring the Big Apple for the first time.

As an Adventurous spirit, you probably have similar instances in your past that are still influencing you, to this day, urging you to explore again.

If you’re harboring dreams of Adventure, it’s time to take action!

If your true nature is adventurous, that small voice won’t be going away. It is only going to get louder.

The world is waiting outside your front door. It’s time to honor and celebrate the Adventurer in YOU.
