Take Back Your Morning!

It’s no secret that highly productive, successful people have morning routines.

When a client is struggling with any area of their life, one of the first things I have them look at is how they start their day.

It doesn’t seem like it would have that much of an impact on a person’s results, but the truth is that, when you’re talking about achieving a goal, it can absolutely be the difference between success and failure.

When I talk about a morning routine, I mean a set of habits that you design and carry out every morning, or at least most mornings, with the intention of directing your day the way you want it to go.

It’s about being intentional with your life.

You know that days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months and months turn into years.

If you aren’t intentional about your days, those seemingly small segments of your life, it is all too easy for them to turn into years where you’re NOT making progress toward what you want, where you’re NOT living the life you dream of.

Maybe you’ve experienced this already. You wake up one day and you’re surprised at where you are and how you got there.

I love that quote by Cora Harvey Armstrong, “inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the hell happened.”

Kind of says it all, doesn’t it?

But this does NOT have to be your experience of life. Or, if you have experienced that feeling of “what the hell happened?”, you CAN eliminate that feeling.

And one of the best ways to do that is to take back control of your present and your future by developing a well-thought-out morning routine.

Studies show that morning routines have multiple benefits, including…

  • Sets you up for a productive day
  • Lowers your stress levels
  • Increases your confidence and mental clarity
  • Boosts your energy
  • Improves your overall health and well-being

These are kind of macro-level benefits, each of which has numerous micro-benefits within it.

So, what does a healthy, beneficial morning routine look like?

I have a system for a morning routine that awakens 5 key areas:

  • You’ll want to awaken Your imagination or creativity

 

  • You’ll want to awaken Your heart,

 

  • You’ll want to awaken your Mind,

 

  • And also your Body

 

  • And, last but not least, you’ll want to awaken your Spirit

Each area is important to awaken as you begin your day. Let me give you a few examples…

To awaken your heart, you might try keeping a gratitude journal. The simple act of writing down 3-5 things you’re grateful for can set you up for feeling abundant and joyful all day long. How would THAT impact your day?

To awaken your mind, you might try listening to an inspiring podcast or watching a short video that intrigues you to learn something new. The idea here is that you develop your sense of innovation and problem-solving.

To awaken your body, you might do 10-minutes of stretching or, even try a quick cold shower to get you going in the morning. There is a growing number of high-performers who swear by morning cold plunges.

Ultimately, there are dozens of ideas and options for creating a morning routine.

The important thing is to begin developing the routine that works best for YOU.

What is the combination of habits that set YOU up for a successful day? Remembering that successful days lead to successful months and successful years.

That is the power of a simple, intentional, well-thought-out morning routine.
